WEB site question?
Well, I am not too sure about ISP's, I always use a web hosting company for hosting web sites. My favorite is HostNed http://www.hostned.com . Their prices are super low and they never let me down.

You need the following to get started:

1) Domain Name

2) Web Hosting

3) Design (site content)

Can't access web site hosted by Yahoo Small Business, Can I Sue them?

I have been calling both verizon and yahoo for nearly 2 weeks, with no results. A yahoo tech told me the problem was verizon needs to unmerge my site from verizon. Verizon won't assist me at all, they just hang up on me. Yahoo keeps sending me the same answer which requires me to log on that does not work. I am up to date on bill payments etc. but Yahoo web hosting will not help me. Just wondering if I have a case to sue them. I am paying for a service that I am not being allowed to access? I really do need to make some changes to the site but my site builder will no longer sign on correctly. The Verizon transfer program does not function at all. I have spoke to a dozen different techs and keep getting the run around. What should I do to get some real results?

It sounds like Verizon is your problem. I have a Yahoo Small Business account, and I've never had a problem with it.

Domain names for Website offer Website related services ???

My recently near-finished website offers all-inclusive website related services i.e.

%26gt;%26gt; from domain name registration to arranging web hosting;

%26gt;%26gt; from taking care of browser compatibility (so the website designed could be viewed equally well, regardless of browser or screen resolution) to arranging hit counter

%26gt;%26gt; from setting keyword %26amp; description to submitting the finished website to search engine

Some I could think of includes:

Domain names for Website offer Website related services ???
This sounds quite harsh, but I'd perhaps re-think your design and layout. I've recently been hunting high and low for a web designer, hosting domain names etc and have been extremely put off by bad layout.

The fact that you've got a free website, with loads of banners and adverts would make me think that you're a part-timer, who would take the money and not do the job.

The design of your website isn't easy to navigate, the flash image is awful on the eyes. I wouldn't let you design my website incase I got the same thing.

Just a few suggestions:

* Make all the colours compliment each other- they clash at the minute

* Improve your own layout

* Include a portfolio

* Get yourself onto a paid website to prove that you take business seriously.

I know that what I've said does sound quite nasty, but if you don't present your own business well then people won't trust you with theirs. Take a look at your competition.

I wouldn't say I am using the BEST, but I use www.awardspace.com

They are pretty good and there are no annoying ads or banners on your page. it is only what you want. They also support front page extensions.
Reply:The absolute BEST that i've found is www.hostgator.com There support is AMAZING their control panel (cPanel) is great, and the prices are UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Check out the site below to view their hosting packages:

Customer service is great. Their phone lines are open 24/7. They also guarantee one-hour ticket response time.

Their plans are also very affordable. Their cheapest plan is only $3.95/month, but it already includes 1.5 G disk space, 150 monthly bandwidth, 50 email accounts, to name a few.

I think I don't have to explain why they provide good control panel. Check the demo of their control panel and see how good it is.

Website related services ???

I'm soon to be launching my website offering Website designing/developing services to individuals and small businesses.

Some of the services that I feel comfortable with myself (and hence can offer it to my potential client) includes:

1) Web Design (actual designing of the website)

2) Compatibility (for different screen resolution %26amp; browsers)

3) Web Hosting (through some company over the Internet)

4) Accessibility (for disabled viewers, such as colour-blindness so they can change the text background and colour themselves AND can change font-sizes, etc.)

5) Domain Name Registration (through some company over the Internet)

6) POP3 e-mail %26amp; forwarding set-up (through some company)

7) Web/Hit Counter (through some company)

Can anyone recommend me with anything I'm missing and what does it mean by:

%26gt;%26gt; Keyword %26amp; Description Setup (is it meta-tag %26amp; description ???)

%26gt;%26gt; Search Engine Registration

%26gt;%26gt; Search Engine Optimisation

%26gt;%26gt; Front-page extention

Can anyone enlighten or recommend me??
Website related services ???
Sounds like you got everything.

For meta tags use this on top of your page:

%26lt;META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"%26gt;

%26lt;META HTTP-EQUIV="EXPIRES" CONTENT="0"%26gt;

%26lt;META NAME="RESOURCE-TYPE" CONTENT="DOCUMENT"%26gt;

%26lt;META NAME="DISTRIBUTION" CONTENT="GLOBAL"%26gt;

%26lt;META NAME="COPYRIGHT" CONTENT="Copyright (c) by %26lt;insert name%26gt;"%26gt;

%26lt;META NAME="KEYWORDS" CONTENT="%26lt;list your keywords separate them using commas%26gt;"%26gt;

%26lt;META NAME="DESCRIPTION" CONTENT="%26lt;enter desciprtion%26gt;"%26gt;

%26lt;META NAME="RATING" CONTENT="GENERAL"%26gt;

There are several meta tags you can insert into your page so I would add as much as possible.

Try going into a site where they will send your site to 100+ search engines for you for free by entering your information just one time.

I would recommend you send your url to google and yahoo separately.

HELP ME PICK THE RIGHT WEB HOST, become a lead designer and partner with me.?

i recently purchased a domain name that came with a free web host, but the host does not come with enough features for my site. I predict my site will become well known rather quickly so I want to be prepared for it by having the right web host.

What I'm lookin for is a host similar to those used by youtube and/or myspace as those sites have similar features that mine will have(and no its not any kind of knock-off of either of these sites)

Also if there is anyone around the northern ohio area who knows about web design and would like to be the lead designer(as I don't know too much about web design) and be my partner in this project. Please e-mail me if you are serious about designing(you will be paid for your services) and becoming a partner in this soon to be world renowned site.

Reply:Large sites such as youtube and myspace have their own dedicated servers.

I have to say, I love when one "self made business" person tries to knock down another. Very respectable.
Reply:The best way to develop your website?, hmm depend son your experience. Did you develop any web pages before? If so then you can probably use the website builders many web hosting companies offer. If templates are too much of a cookie cutter for you. You can buy a template and have it changed professionaly for as less as $100. About the hosting price, I would say try 1and1.com, they are world wide and reliable, and cheaper than go-daddy (about $2.99). So don't fall into the $125 traps. ;-)

Anybody know of a cheap and cheerful Hosting company?

Hi, I recently signed up for a domain and hosting from a company called UK Web but they took my money and ran and didnt even register my domain. Im looking for a cheap hosting service to include purchase of a .co.uk domain name its only for a couple of simple pages. A website design wizard would be brilliant too. Who do you use? Thatnks in advance.
Anybody know of a cheap and cheerful Hosting company?
I use Portland.co.uk who have a package for 拢11.99 a year, then you just need to pay the ragistration fee for your domain. I've been with them for several years, so I don't think they'll take your money and run.

Is it allowed to sell products or services with a free geocities account?

Hey guys,

I'm new to this so I wasn't sure how to categorize this. Anyway, here's my question: I've seen a couple of online businesses with free web hosting accounts (i.e. angelfire, bravenet) that have been selling products and services. It's obvious that they are indeed free accounts because of the url (angelfire.com/yournamehere). Is this allowed on a free geocities account? I'm a poor web designer who can't afford to pay for web hosting right now, so I'm kinda desperate to start making some money. Thanks to anyone that can help!
Is it allowed to sell products or services with a free geocities account?
I don't know what all this going into business stuff for free is all about??? Are you sure you don't just have your priorities screwed up?

Come on, a few bucks a month is something anyone can squeeze out if they need to, so don't shoot yourself in the foot to start with.

I can show you how to get a web page up on real Cpanel hosting account and have it paying for itself in the first month.
Is it allowed to sell products or services with a free geocities account?
Unfortunatly you don't allow for any way to contact you in your profile and you don't seem to have a 360 page. If you would like to contact me instead, I would be happy to show you and it won't cost you a dime of your own money. Report It

Reply:I just realized that, sorry. I changed my options, but I'll contact you instead. You should have a message in your inbox by the time you read this. I didn't mention it before (which was rude -- sorry again, lol), but I really really appreciate the offer -- that's very kind of you. :o) Report It

Most I found provides simple parking page or so unless if you add hosting service which is $5-10 a month. All I am looking for is low price domain tranfer/register service with a small (about 50mb) web space and email; pop3 or forwarding service.

What is the best way to become a web designer?

I have taken my web design certification, but missed the first classes where we discussed web hosting and the like. I would like to be a freelance web designer but I would like to know the best process to go about offering my services. What is the proper process I would use to build a website for someone? I can handle the graphic design part, the javascript, html, etc. Just need to know the hosting process and stuff, in terms of offering my service to others.
What is the best way to become a web designer?
Oh boy, that's a tall order...well, I've been doing this for a while and the first thing you need to do is decide what sort of web designer you are going to be.

See, I have been doing the one on one connection with clients. I've made some lifelong contacts and loyal customers that won't go to anyone else for their design needs.

But I have had clients that made me want to rip out my hair, scream and toss in the towel without a glance back!

I've been lucky not to have had many of those, but they are out there. So you need to be prepared to be eaten alive and torn apart by the worst of them if you want to survive in this niche.

Another thing that is happening is that it is getting easier and easier for anyone to make their own websites. The software is out there and it's getting easier to use...faster, more professional - AND they don't have to know one tag or line of script to make a drop down awesome site.

It stinks! But that's the reality to it...I've come to the decision that after all these years, I'm going to keep my clients and those that they refer me too I will consider. But I am going to do what I love to do - create websites!

Most designers live for the design and the creation of a vision. So if that is what you love, then do it. Then sell the sites for a price. If someone wants to buy it and have you customize it a little, that's easier than starting from scratch.

I like godaddy for hosting and such because the cost is reasonable. Domains are a good price too and there is help just a phone call away to tech support at anytime 24/7!

You can check out guru.com and offer your services there if you want to go that way. Or search for projects to see what you want to make a bid for.

There are several freelance sites that offer this option.

In the end, you need to decide what will make you happy and allow you to be free to choose what you're doing and how you do it.

Its as much your perspective and how you see your business as the actual running of the business. In this, attitude counts big time. That and studying...a lot!

I wish you luck as in this industry, it is a never ending cycle of learning and trying to keep up with the changes and moods of the technical world.
What is the best way to become a web designer?
I would first start with displaying your skills and background on craigslist. Then from there try moving into social networks. when you first start out you have to hustle and market yourself until word of mouth or referals take care of the rest for you.
Reply:Well first you'll need to build a portfolio. Obviously, people won't hire you if you don't show them what you can do.

Then set up your own website. Make it nice and elegant, remember you're offering to make similar ones to clients. Be sure to set up an e-commerce account.

Then promote your site! Advertise and SEO.

Understand that businesses don't get built overnight. It takes time and energy. Be patient and work at it, and I'm sure you'll make it. I'm sixteen and working towards becoming a web designer, and my mentor says he charges $40-$120 per hour for freelance work he does. Yeah, that's big.

As for hosting, I recommend dreamhost. They'll give you lots of stuff. I have a page of promo codes for them, too, if you're interested. The site is kinda sorta still being worked on, in fact I only threw up this page for this question (yet I will no doubt later make reference to it)

One last thing: you may want to consider, as you get bigger and better, to host your own site, and then offer web hosting to your clients as well as web design. Just a thought.
Reply:make a site that u can actually advertise(it doesnt really matter if it's a free domain or not) just show on the site the best of your knowledge in designing... then got myspace?post it there.. tell friends, newspaper, post it anywhere u can... and upon that site u can leave some contact(e-mail..etc) then eventually, as people see your "viewing talent" they'll just contact u etc...

one more thing, go find some small enterprises on such advertisements for web design( whatever that relates your field) and pick it.... it's a great one way of advertising yourself and the same time practice right?

Reply:Okay, this is going to sound REALLY off the wall... but that's because I'm more interested in offering information that might have a positive influence on someone's career or life, than I am in getting a vote for best answer.

Here goes... yes, I could offer a bunch of advice on web hosting and web design and even programming. However, none of that is going to make your job any easier, because what you're about to enter is highly COMPETITIVE.

And there is an answer to that.. DON'T be competitive. Instead, focus on giving your clients something with real value. Focus on giving them MORE than their money's worth, and new clients will be knocking your door down.

This isn't a new principle... it's been around for almost a hundred years. If you're up for a bit of reading, check out this online book. If you make it to the finish, it will be worth your while. And yes, it's all free...

Can I host web server on Cox Residential Internet Service?

I try to host web server on Cox Residential Cable. Seems that request package does not reach my server. Are there something wrong?

Thanks,
Can I host web server on Cox Residential Internet Service?
Cox blocks port 80, 25, and 21 to non-commercial accounts. This is to stop home users from running a HTTP, FTP, or MAIL server form the residence.

You need to reassign the to a new port, and include it on your url.

Instead of http;//www.MySite.com

it will read http;//www.MySite.com:8080 or whatever port you reassign it to.

Check out http://www.dslwebserver.com for complete details.

Also if you have a Dynamic IP address you will need a site that will assist is Dynamic DNS forwarding. I like http://www.NO-IP.com but there many Dynamic DNS services out there. NO-IP is a free service.
Can I host web server on Cox Residential Internet Service?
You need to go into your router, and divert the public IP address to be port-forwarded to your private IP.
Reply:Many residential cable and DSL operators dont want their customers hosting websites. They discourage this in a few ways.

1. By using PPP or on-demand connections. When you have a software package you have to install on your computer before using your DSL/cable modem.

2. By blocking various ports. Such as 80, http, and 25, smtp (mail) inbound.

3. By giving you dynamic IP addresses. Your IP address keeps changing every few hours or each time you login.

However, there are a few ways around this. I myself use SBC DSL and host a website and mail server.

You need two things basically. Sometimes they can be combined into one service.

1. Dynamic DNS. This is a service that maps your domain name to your constantly change IP address. There are many providers. I use a very reliable one called www.dyndns.org.

2. Port forwarding/relay (if necessary). If you find that your provider is blocking ports, you may need to sign up for a relay or port forwarder. (Sending port 80 to 8080, etc.) www.dyndns.org can do this, or others.

I hope this helps you solve your problems!
Reply:Why not put your question to Cox directly! Just give them a call or send them a registered letter.

Best design for a crawling web service?

I'm developing a web service which returns the latest stock prices on a market. I've no access to the stock data. Instead I chose to scrap a HTML page to generate the data. At present my web service will do this scrapping whenever accessed. There is a performance flaw on this approach. The traffic of my hosting server shoots up for each of the service invocation. So I've two solutions to cut down the traffic.

1. Using a windows service that scraps the source HTML page in regular intervals and update a database, which will be read by the web service whenever invoked and returns the updated stock price.

2. Make the web service to update the database after scraping the HTML page, so that requests in next 10 minutes (or so) will get the data from the database, rather than scrapping the HTML page for every request.

For an user base of say 100, what will be optimal solution and why? Can you suggest a good choice for me?

I need information on starting a web-based contractor refferal service.?
I run a web services site that might fit your needs.

First let's address web hosting;

Please visit http://www.mxdwebservice.com

and review our plans.

We offer plans starting at 5GB of web space and 100GB of traffic and 1 free domain name for $69.24/year...that is less than $6/month. Currently, our largest plan consists of 25GB of web space with 300GB of traffic. Every plan includes one free domain name.

All plans come with a large complement of free scripts and tools, designed to help you build and maintain a professional-looking web site; including tools like Joomla! %26amp; PHPNuke (content management systems), osCommerce (a shopping cart/billing system) and more than 20 other similar free tools!

Like any good web host we offer our clients 24/7 customer support, including a trouble ticket system, live chat and phone/email support.

In addition, we also offer a complete library of video tutorials to help guide you visually through a large variety of possible questions about running and maintaining your web space. Nothings better than seeing how it's done step by step!

Thats not all! You will also find a growing library of articles designed to help guide and inform you, should you decide to run a web business.

I would suggest that you visit our site as there is a wealth of free information available and more details about the hosting plans we offer.

Next let's tackle web design;

We offer professional, custom web designs starting at a basic rate of $100/page. Because every web design is unique to it's owners wants and needs; it is always best to consult with us directly about your needs. Please feel free to send us an email about your design needs at; sales@mxdwebservice.com and we will gladly assist you with any questions you may have.

Aside from our paid web design service, remember that all hosting plans include Site Studio for easy point and click web design. Using this tool, a quality site can be designed and published with NO knowledge of web coding or design. As with any client, I welcome any question you may have while designing a web site on your own.

Lastly, legal issues;

Doing business online is no different than running a business in the real world. I would suggest you check with your local laws and regulations for any regulations regarding home businesses or online businesses. Of course like any business venture, you'll do best to get your tax id and a Doing Business As name registered with your local municipality.

I try very hard to provide as much as possible for each client and I will work as hard for you.

Thank you for your time and I hope to have helped you in some way. :)

Is there a web service that allows my customers to upload their photos to my website securely?

I am starting a video services company. One product that i will feature is DVD slideshows (putting photos onto DVD with music). Does anyone know of a web service that allows customers to upload their pictures to a secured area where only I can access them? I know there are free photo hosting sites, but i need this to look professional and integrated with my web site. Ideally, there'd be a way to assign passwords and customer numbers to the photos so i wouldn't mix up customer's pictures. Thanks!

Where can I find an IT student to do part time work for me on the net (web pages, searches, organigrams...)?

I need a student in IT who has time to work part time building up web pages, sorting out how to use hosting services I have subscribed to and explain it to me, drawing organigrams, doing some searches I will send him/her by email.
Where can I find an IT student to do part time work for me on the net (web pages, searches, organigrams...)?
I once faced a similar situation as yours: I needed to design a website for a community helpline, and this place was a fantastic discovery:

www.rentacoder.com

www.guru.com is another place where you can place a competitive offer. The good thing is you don't have to pay anything in advance in both places, and there are plenty of people to choose from.

I had my website built for $75 by an Indian, and he was fantastic I should say except for some spelling mistakes on the page which he promptly rectified without complain. The good thing is he worked 7 days time for that trifle amount. But, that was in 2004. Now, from what I hear, rates have risen a bit even in India. Still, it's a far cheaper alternative - try imagining screw an American for 7 days.

It's always advisable to bargain with Indians....most of them want to take US customers for a ride, but they are still your good bet cuz they are technically sound. Do your homework well and wish you good luck.

Generally your internet provider allows you webhosting with your service, you just need an FTP program to access it. Get in touch with your internet provider and then do a search for a free FTP software (I use CORE FTP Lite for free). You can also create your own domain name and have it forwarded to your internet-space (I use #1 Cheap Domains)

well, i know there were a lot free web hosting before but i don't know if they still do it. before was www.angelfire.com and www.philwebhosting.com i think do free web hosting. have you tried www.tripod.com. I'm not into web hosting sorry. nut i do hope helped with something.
Reply:If you are serious about websites either for personal or your business, don't go to free web hosting as they are usually not reliable and you may end up losing all your hard work. Free web hosts usually put advertisements on your websites and it could be annoying.

If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months' time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukend...

They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 300000 MB (300 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.

My service provider has give me hosting space and a domain, i have a web page, how do i link them up?

Usually, when you're given a domain name and webspace, you will have to configure your webspace to respond to those accessing the domain name. Some webspace provider have its own control panel (cPanel, Plesk, Virtuozzo, etc) that will allow you to defined the domain name to direct traffic to your webspace.

In some cases, when you were given the webspace and the domain name, it's already linked.

Check with your service provider customer support for documentation on how to configure your domain name to work with your webspace.
My service provider has give me hosting space and a domain, i have a web page, how do i link them up?
You can set your providers page to redirect to your site.

Use a meta tag:

%26lt;META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" content="10; url=http://www.yoursite.com"/%26gt;

This means after 10 seconds (can be longer or less) the page is re-directed to www.yoursite.com
My service provider has give me hosting space and a domain, i have a web page, how do i link them up?
Upload the web site to the domain, typically using FTP (free software is available on line). If you happened to have used FrontPage to design the web site, click on %26lt;File%26gt; %26lt;publish%26gt; and it will do all the work for you. You will need your user name and password form your ISP. Your ISP should have some toutorials or help function to guide you.

It really depends on how much these videos will be accessed. You need a great deal of diskspace and bandwidth. Shared hosting probably will not work for you. You need to do some calculations to estimate the diskspace and bandwidth you will need.

A dedicated server costs $100+ a month.

Why not look into dedicated servers?

At minimum you would need a few T-1s bonded, prefereably a T-3 and you're looking at a couplt to a few grand a month. I've got a pair of T-1s bonded and, if I remember right, its about 1200 per month... a T-3 would be about twice that.
What kind of service would I need from a web host in order to have a site that had hundreds of videos on it?
You need to estimate how many vistors you will have and how many movies each person will watch. For instance, Startlogic gives you 1,500 GB Space ( which means you can host about 100,000 videos. Startlogic also gives you 15,000 transfer per month (which means you can have 100,000 people watching 15 videos) etc.

I can recommend http://www.startlogic.ca I've used them for nearly 3 years and hosted about 20 websites with them. Price is $5.95/ month and they offer toll free support (1-800) which is a must, and a 30 day moneyback guarantee. You can also have up to 50 separate websites per account.

You can also try http://www.webhosting-reviews.ca they offer some good hosting reviews. Let me know if you have any other questions.

How do I insert a logo/graphic file in my e-mail signature?

Our web host service says we have to enter html code pointing to a web page containing the file. They also say we have a page available with our package, but they can't help me with the code. I need to know the best way to do this. Can't I just embed the graphic in the emails somehow? (Intuitively something tells me that's not going to work - How could it?) So anyway, how do I get access to this page they're telling me I have, then get the graphic of our logo loaded there? I guess by then I'll know the html code to enter in our email signature(s).
How do I insert a logo/graphic file in my e-mail signature?
The way to do it is to place the signature image file on your web server, in a publicly available place. Then put the HTML that links to your image into the signature space for your e-mail. If you are using a client like Outlook, you need to make sure to configure it to *not* attach linked images to the e-mail message.

Just put something like the following in your signature:

%26lt;img src="http://www.yoursite.com/ yoursignature.gif"%26gt;

The only other option is to embed the image into the e-mail, as you said. The downside of this is that every e-mail you send will look like it has an attachment, and people will probably be confused by this.

Where are customer details saved?

Hi there, I have to do this assignment. Basically ive been asked to suggest suitable technologies for building a intranet for a small size business (40 employees) with connection to Internet.

The business is an internet travel agency - selling holiday packages. So far I have established...that The company will require a Ethernet using either a Star-bus topology, routers,a high speed internet connection, and could either host its webpage using a web host service, or purchase a webserver to host it in-house. The latter one is the dearer option, requiring expertise etc..but I have not been given any budget so I just might suggest it.

MY QUESTION - for the booking the packages..i guess I need a secure payment solutionthat customers can make their payment through. If I buy such a solution externally, how would the storage and transfer of customer details/booking work? And where would you suggest storing it - have a in-house database?

SOrry for the Long explanatioN!!
Where are customer details saved?
You could use a online payment method such as paypal to accept the payments. It is quite cheap to use and you pay fees on the amounts you recieve.

To store the users details you would need a DBMS such as MYSQL or MS Access. You would also need a scripting language to work with the DBMS such as PHP or ASP.

These could both be implemented with the use of paypal.
Where are customer details saved?
If you get an external solution, then you need a SSL certificate which is used to encypt the customer/transcation information over the net. So the information will not be compromised. For the storage, I would suggest using a mySQL database.
Reply:In the last few months it has become mandatory for any organisation that stores details of credit cards be verified for 3D secure. This requires an audit, certificate of compliance and a failure can result in a fine of upto 拢50,000 and the removal of the ability to use credit/debit cards.

You should suggest use of on online merchant, these take the responsibility of storing payment details, the will be responsible for ensuring they keep upto date with any security issues. Most will be able to give you a page that sits within your own website for payment and will take any details you need to send to them such as customer number, invoce reference etc. They then take the credit card details and send back to you a transaction reference number and details as to whether the payment failed or was successful thiscan be stored in any database you choose. Though in this instyance to reduce your costs a PHP/MySQL on Apache solution would be ideal. You will also get a secure website you can log into to review any payments taken by the provider and the ability to do refunds etc.

Where are customer/booking details stored?
I'm afraid I can't help you directly but why don't you phone / email some Travel agents - direct your query to their IT department. I'm sure you'd get someone who would help you. Personally I think phoning and asking to speak to someone in their IT department is best, that was you should get an immediate response.

Good luck!

I need to verify a website hosting service....hostmonster.com?

I've been working on a newer website for my business and it was suggested for hosting services to be used as a startup process for it. I was wondering if anyone here has used Hostmonster.com for their web and how you like the service? I found that they are within a Better Business Bureau's website Database in one of Utah's BBB branches, but it shows limited information at this time for they are being checked out still for BBB to provide complete details. Is this service good for ECOMMMERCE ?? I know they are cheaper, but need to know more details of their services than the webpage gives you, before I call their tech support with further questions. Only serious replies please and also just asking about Hostmonster.com only right now, thanks!

How do I report problems with Yahoo web site services?

I've had a domain hosted by Yahoo for five or more years. I'm having trouble with e-mail I'm not getting any response when I inquire via their help form under my account.
How do I report problems with Yahoo web site services?
Hi,

That is what we at Answers are here for! Tell me your problem. I have an answer I give a lot, se if it helps you.

Thousands are having all kinds of problems with their mail since the new format, with Server Farm issues with Original Mail AND Beta Mail, several months ago!

Yahoo! and Sun Java are also having conflicts. Rather than trying to work around them, here is the easy and fastest way to cure them (for most). Go to Tools, open Internet Options, and select Advance tab. Scroll down the list and see if you have Microsoft Virtual Machine listed, if so, uncheck the 2 java鈥檚 listed. Make sure JIT is checked, click apply then ok. and then Close. This lets MSN virtual machine launch Yahoo! mail. I reccomend that you use Original Mail until beta works out the bugs. FYI, beta means TESTING. Go back to IE6 which works just fine and is problem free. It is still installed on your pc. If you are using Yahoo Mail Plus, and your server farm has problems, switch to the free service until things are worked out.

If not:

You will have less problems with Mail if you sign in via Messenger! Go to preferences, general, then check box: Automatically sign me in when I click a Yahoo! link in Messenger. Then click on the little envelope icon on top of messenger box. Or go to My Yahoo and click on your mail link. Or click on the Big RED Y! on the Yahoo! Toolbar. Bottom line is any link that already has you signed in!!!

NOTE: Use beta software at your own risk; it is intended for testing and evaluation purposes only. Do not install beta software on your primary computer or production environment.

I hope this helps you.

What Is Free Domain Hosting?

What Is Free Domain Hosting?

If you want to publish your own personal website, there are ways in which you can do it for free. There are free domain hosting sites available for those who want to share themselves, their interests, and their passions with the world. Of course, the website won鈥檛 be the eye-popping, music-blaring, fireworks-blazing websites that many corporate display. Yet, this website will still be a fun, beautifully-designed creation of yours.

Free domain hosting is not available to businesses. Rather, it is more of a public service movement by online companies in an effort to spur interest in web. It鈥檚 a starter-kit for the amateur web designer. Different free domain hosting sites offer various hosting services.

What Is Free Domain Hosting?
Nothing is free. You can get space on the web and guides on how to make a web site from numerous providers including Yahoo GeoCities. The only drawback is that they will post advertising on your site. If you don't mind the ads, go for it. If you can produce a high quality site, you can upload it. If you don't want ads, there are a lot of companies that sell web space very cheap. I have a site that costs me $3 per month and I get everything I need.
What Is Free Domain Hosting?
if it gives you free space but only with free subdomain it shouldn't be called a free domain hosting but instead a free subdomain hosting.
Reply:On the contrary, some things are free. You can get free domain name appraisals from WorthFish.com which is what I use for all my domain name info.

Low Cost Web Site Hosting?

I need to get 2 or 3 fairly simplistic websites up and running.

They will have basic information and will need to have the ability for browsers to contact me, preferably using a form on the site.

Anyone know of a good provider for such a service?

(My partner can create the website and upload it.)

Reply:Hi

It's very difficult to find independent and reliable web site reviews on the internet these days. Most of the hosting review sites are affiliated with the hosting companies they claim to "review", and they don't seem to know much about web hosting, and don't seem to do real tests.

So, I would recommend going for the big ones. 1and1.com or something like that.

http://order.1and1.com/

1%26amp;1 is one of the biggest hosts in the world (hosts 2,701,543 web sites according to Netcraft (jan 2008). Seems to be the world鈥檚 biggest web host, and the fastest growing. See Source).

At 1%26amp;1 you can host all of your sites on the same account, depending on what plan you select, starting at $2/month.

You can host 3 sites with different domains at $5/month

Another big alternative, if you are - or your partner is - into asp scripting, is to go for http://www.godaddy.com/
Reply:Check out www.tophostreviews.blogspot.com for some amazing hosting deals. I like the #1 review because it's only 1 cent to try it out for 1 month it has amazing 24/7 support. You can also host unlimited websites under 1 account for the same price.
Reply:If you want to create one on your own I would suggest taking a look at the one I use. It will offer a great comparison in your search. You can find them at http://www.tobuildyour.com

BEST WISHES!
Reply:I suggest that you choose a hosting plan where you can manage more than 3 websites.

For that, I recommend My Webbie Hosting.com's Business Plan. Here are the specs for your info:

- 15 G disk space

- 3 DOMAIN NAMES HOSTED

- 300 G bandwidth

- 20 FTP accounts

- only $4.95/month
Reply:Microsoft Office Live Basics is the easy way to get started on the Web. If you have always wanted your own Website, Microsoft Office Live Small Business has just made it easier, much easier! Get:

Cpanel/Fantastico Included too.

They have a great uptime and all day available support.

I have a reseller account there and I'm very satisfy The last 2,5 months.

Reply:For basic hosting you should try 1%26amp;1

For anything more advanced I'd use Bluehost, Startlogic or something similar.
Reply:I can recommend http://www.startlogic.ca I've used them for nearly 3 years and hosted about 20 websites with them. Price is $5.95/ month and they offer toll free support. ( MAKE certain your get a host with TOLL FREE support) You can also have up to 50 separate websites per account.

You can also try http://www.easier-hosting.com they offer some good hosting reviews.

Host profiessional web server at Home?

I need to host a dedicated server. Since I鈥檝e 2 desktops but I only need one, I want to host IIS web server at home running ASP.Net with SQL Server 2005 like godaddy鈥檚 dedicated server.

My questions are

1) Is there any web hosting company that can provide DNS service? Can godaddy provide that? Ex. When someone type www.mywebsite.com , I want the user to forward my home static IP.

2) As far as I know most COX ISP doesn鈥檛 provide fast upload speed. Can I request to COX to have more upload speed? Or is there any ISP that can provide fast upload speed 2Mbps or higher.

Please do not mention about software prices and security issues.
Host profiessional web server at Home?
Of course,there are tons of Dns services,I use Enom

you can also use easydns.com

with both,you can manage the nameservers to point to your static Ip

If you are hosting your website at your home server,why would you need a hosting company?

As an advice,it would be better to seperate Dns management and web hosting

By the way all web hosts provide dns and Ip forwarding services even if you dont host with them,yu just need to register the domain with them to have that.

Also,as you mentioned,you can use your ISP to do the ip mapping to your static IP(assuming your ip is assigned by your isp,it's easy and you dont have to pay anything most of the time) but ISP services are usually meant for personal pages.

Hope I have helped you a little bit.

I want to create a website similar to youtube.?

What web hosting service would have the space to accomodate the uploaded videos?
I want to create a website similar to youtube.?
Any good hosting company will be able to provide you with that. What you should do is start out small with a regular hosting plan until you start getting a decent amount of hits. Then you can move up to the next plan level up. Eventually you will need to get the plan with dedicated servers to support the amount of data and traffic. If you go to http://www.dakotawebhosting.com they have plans at different levels depending on the needs so you would be able to add as you go.
I want to create a website similar to youtube.?
why dont u just make ur own? thats wut me and chat did when we created youtube
Reply:First you will need to know how to program the back-end subsystems to process the video and deliver it. Then, after that you will need a massive amount of bandwidth, which you will pay an ISP/hosting company for. And then you will need massive storage space to hold all the content.

Any serious host will allow you to have as much storage space as you want. Provided you can pay for it. You'll need a solid business plan if you really want this to work.

So I'd focus on getting #1 down first. Then you can worry about finding a good host.
Reply:To make your own "mini-youtube", you can get a vidiac account for free! People, including you, can upload video's to your site (up to 500mb), and the best thing is that you have control over all the video's on your site! You approve, and decline video's of your choice that people upload to your site! For an example, here's my site: pillarproductions.vidiac.com .

Hope this helps!

Is there a way to program password protected files/folders through Yahoo Geocities?
You will need to transfer your site to a hosted location where you can control the server-side logic (e.g. password protection using .htaccess with Apache or a database login).

Is there such a thing as a free web service for producing online surveys?

I have to do an assignment for a uni module that requires a survey/market research and was wondering if there was an online service that could host this.
Is there such a thing as a free web service for producing online surveys?
You may find what you are looking for at bravenet- a great site with lots of free things. You have to become a member, but it's free to do so and only requires minimum details and they have never sent me loads of spam either.

bravenet.com
Reply:www.free-online-surveys.com

i used it last year for one of my university yr 2 modules. its free for 30 days then you have to pay to analyse any results after that
Reply:Surveymonkey.com, surveyshare.com, promotetop.com, surveykey.com, bravenet.com, zapsurvey.com
Reply:No. You have to pay for it. SurveyMonkey http://www.surveymonkey.com charges $19.95 per month for 1,000 respondents (you are charged a few cents for over 1,000 respondents).

But it is worth the fee -- they will tabulate the results for you in real time (except for the open ended questions) and you can run the survey in several ways: as a popup; as an email or as a text link on your site.

You can't put that type of HTML code to insert and email form. Search for 'contact form' at Flashden website. You can't be using a free web host because email forms require php script.

Where is the cheapest place to buy a domain name?

I currently have a website and am looking into purchasing a domain name. My web-hosting service charges about $20 bucks a month for one. I'm sure there's a cheaper way.
Where is the cheapest place to buy a domain name?
There are many companies that offer great domain name registry services for a great price. If your paying somewhere between $20, to $30, to $40 per domain, you're getting ripped off. The average price you should pay to register a domain name is around $10-$15 per year.

A great service I found is DomainerDude.com.They charge $7.99 to register a .com and they also have low cost web hosting and good customer service. When you visit their website you will need to look for their "search function" in order to search to see if the domain name you want is available to purchase.

Make sure to max out the amount of years you claim ownership for your domain name to 10 years(you will save more this way). Avoid using lengthy domains, or too many dashes. Learn about the domain name extensions and see if they apply to you. Protect control over your domain to avoid loosing it later on. Use sub-domains to illustrate different content not related to your main content. Forward other domain names if needed until you want to use them. Setup your domain name by getting a hosting service to store your website files, and change the DNS info to point your domain to your hosting services. Protect your company branding by buying up all the extensions possible for your domain to prevent anyone from using them against you.
