I have 2 small business websites at the moment...I pay $30 a year for each. They both started out with 50MB storage %26amp; 1000MB transfer. On one of them, I bought 50MB more storage. Domain was/is free.
However, I am constantly having problems with them. The websites will go down during peak hours for no reason, mail service is sporadic, I have deleted 3/4 of my website because they say I keep going over my limit...this is on the 100MB one.
I feel like I should look for a new one, but I really can't spend much more than $60 total a year for the two together. I know you can get multiple domains now under some hosting plans, but by the time you pay for the extra domains, it's not cheap anymore.
Where can I find something reasonable? Having all the bells %26amp; whistles is not a priority, but would be nice.
Inexpensive but reliable web host...does it exist?
I use webhostingbuzz.com - it's reliable, and for $3/month you get 30GB space and 1000GB transfer/month. That's a lot better than your current one!
What's more, you can host multiple domains on the one hosting account. (Remember, domains themselves should only cost you $9 - e.g. at namecheap.com).
So, if there's enough space on that one account, you should only have to pay $36/year or $54 if you register for two years.
I've been with WHB for a while now, and they seem to be for real. Good luck!!

DO NOT go thru this company! They don't do domain transfers Report It
Reply:I did bravenet for a year, price vs what you get was not to bad for the mid range paid hosting
Reply:Really a case of you get what you pay for. $30/year for hosting? If it is ever up you are lucky.
I use Lunarpages - has never been down, and I run 5 sites at a time off one account. More expensive than what you are paying, and worth it
Nothing that costs $30/year is going to be any good
Reply:I have around 25 sites hosted with CrystalTech.com. They have simple HTML plans for $2.95/month. They also have a 99.5% uptime percentage, great support and an easy to use control panel.
Good luck!
Reply:Yahoo! Web hosting is great! I love it, and will never use anyone else.
Reply:http://www.JuicyHosting.com is under $5/month, and would let you host both under the same account. they have a great service, http://www.LocoDomains.com is also very good
Reply:If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months' time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.
I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.
Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukend...
They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 300000 MB (300 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.
Visit the site to check details.

Following site is quite good to register domains as price is reasonable with free privacy. Some charge about $5/ year just for free privacy.

Does Dreamhost offer promotion renewal codes for customers who wish to re 鈥?register and renew at a discount?
Dreamhost review sites offer a discount code and coupon promotion of almost every description. I am a returning customer and need to renew my web hosting. My free domain is also coming up for renewal. Does Dreamhost offer discount vouchers for customers renewing their hosting service, and does this include a free domain renewal too? If not is there a dreamhost alternative?
Does Dreamhost offer promotion renewal codes for customers who wish to re 鈥?register and renew at a discount?
I would contact them direct for the most accurate response.
Does Dreamhost offer promotion renewal codes for customers who wish to re 鈥?register and renew at a discount?
It would appear that there is some misinformation circulating the
Internet about what returning Dreamhost customers can and can't do.
Some have stated that 'opening a new account, you are not complying
with DreamHost's Terms of Service and may get your account suspended.'
Others seem to think that the initial offer is an act of philanthropy
and comes out of Dreamhost's good heart.
Obviously Dreamhost can charge these promotional prices and still make
a profit, the hope is that customers simply renew at the normal rate
without question.
The good news is that the terms of service state that a customer can
only have one hosting plan at a time. So as long as you close your
existing plan, or wait until it has expired, you can open a new
account.

service plan at any given time with DreamHost Web Hosting. Signing up
for multiple plans is grounds for termination of all plans, including
the first one, without warning.'

The steps to renew an account and get your discount are as follows;
1) Save all emails and other web content that is currently hosted
by dreamhost as this will be deleted when you close your account.
2) Close your existing account at Dreamhost :
a) Login to your WebPanel and
b) Go to Billing %26gt; Manage Account
c) Click on your hosting plan and select "close this account"
3) Click to https://signup.dreamhost.com/ sign up using the promo
code RENEW
NOTE: You are not closing your whole account, just terminating your
current hosting plan. This means that you will still have access to,
and be able to renew any existing domain names.

How can legitimate companies with clients who WANT to receive emails avoid being filtered as spam?
We are a gaming company with over 5000 beta signups for our beta. It seems that almost 40% of our emails end up in our beta players' junk mail, unless they specifically add us to their approved list. We are not sending junkmail, but often important announcements. Players are upset they have not received the notice. We have checked with our web host and they have done what they can to assure that all of our settings are right, that our emails aren't sent out in too big a volume at a time, and that we have no bad keywords that should be causing any filter red flags. What can we do? Is there a "secure" hosting service out there that guarantees that its users don't spam through them, which the gmails and yahoos and hotmails recognize as self-policing so they won't filter emails from that host? If so, sign me up, I'll go with any host who can get my emails through to my clients. We're losing a lot of money due to inability to communicate!
How can legitimate companies with clients who WANT to receive emails avoid being filtered as spam?
You will need to educate your clients.
Perhaps when the first sign up for service explain to them from the beginning that they should add your email address to the "safe" recipient list.
Even if it means showing them screen shots and having a whole page on your servers or website to educate them about the possibility of future important notices to be blocked by their spam filters.
Perhaps giving them an option to see the latest important bulletin or announcement on the websever themselves, like a message board or something.
Maybe you should consider setting up a webmail service ( or just an Inbox for messages only) for each of your clients so they can see important emails on the server with out using their own email clients.
Doesn't have to be massive in space, you can make it so they can only hold 2-4 mb of information.

Hosted webdesign solutions (like Brightegg)?
I'm considering using a hosted web design service (www.brightegg.com) as I like the combination of CMS and decent templates they have.
I was wondering if anyone could recommend any similar alternatives? I aware of OS solutions like Joomla, but the free templates I have seen suck quite badly.
With Brightegg I am prepared to pay for the premium templates as it is cheaper than paying for a designer.

You could look at microsoft office live as a viable option, you basically get to build your own site by using various design, colour and image templates, you can also upload your own images and logo. it's easy to use with little knowledge and can acheieve great results!
With the basics package (free) you get:
- Free domain name and Web hosting
- Easy-to-use Web site design tools to easily create and update your own website
- 500 MB of Web site storage space
- 25 company-branded e-mail accounts
- Web site reports
There is also the option to upgrade to Office Live Essentials or Office Live Premium which have more space, more emails, and more tools.

If you plan to have a successful website you do not want to use a template. it is bad for SEO and is just one of many cookie cutter methods that will give you low rankings. Focus more on the server technologies and try getting a dedicated server.
Reply:Hi there,
I must correct the previous answer because it is not true as it relates to Brightegg. As a Brightegg founder, I can give you peace of mind that our CMS and system are built very SEO friendly. Concurrently, are themes are provided by talented designers who only design to W3C standards. We can also modify an existing template to meet your needs for a very reasonable price.

Just Google "seo tips".
Google doesn't care (or even know) if your website is hosted on a dedicated server or not. Hosted solutions are fine as long as the end result looks good.

How to i add my site to the dns host server?
There are several things required to host a site on your local machine besides DNS. DNS just does a lookup to send requests to the correct IP it is NOT A HOST!
Here is what you have to have in order to host a site.
1. Web Server on your local computer.
You can use IIS (microsofts web server), PWS (microsofts personal web server - visit Microsoft for details on getting them setup, not too hard but not easy either) or Apache a free webserver for linux, windows, or any OS. Currently Apache is the number one choice for most internet web servers!
http://apache.org you can also find easy to install packages for your computer. Once the webserver is working the DNS will point to that server and it will respond. You do have to have Apache or IIS working for them to send back a page!
2. An established web site for that Web server! You can build one and put the pages in the correct directory depending on the web server you are using. IIS uses a different directory than does Apache so all depends on the web server where you need to load your website!
3. You need to forward port 80 for the web server to work. That also means you need to change your routers default management page from port 80 to something else or it will not forward! You can change your routers port to 8080 or 81 etc using the routers setup pages.
4. You need to be sure your ISP (who supplies your connection) allows you to run a server! This is important because if they don't and you try you will find it simply won't work or you will find you will get dropped and have NO INTERNET for violating the terms of service.
5. You need your DNS pointed to YOUR IP which is all you have setup at this point!
In other words there is more too it than simple DNS entry!
ALL DNS DOES is point a name (your domain name) to your IP! It does nothing else nor can it.
GO to the Apache site, read and re-read it.
Once you understand what is involved you will see why paying a couple of dollars per month is well worth the expense for website hosting! Don't forget if your computer turns off, so does your website, if you cable or DSL goes down, so does your website. AND the outbound speed of your connection will limit the amount of users that can see your website at one time. Generally this is low on most home connections!
How to i add my site to the dns host server?
If you're hosting the site on your PC, then just edit the content on your PC! Make sure that your router is forwarding port 80 to your PC.
Dyndns.com only handles the name resolution for you. You need to tell them the public IP address of your connection, either manually or by installing one of the many dynamic dns monitoring clients on one of your systems. Once that's done, ping your dyndns url and make sure that name resolution is working properly, i.e. that it responds with the IP address of your external interface.
I can't tell you how to edit your content as I don't even know what web server you're running. Read the docs.
And as to configuring dyndns, it's all on their website. Again, read and you will be enlightened.
Reply:You are going to have to call dyndns.com and get them to give you a walk through.
Reply:You need to load and run a web server on your machine. You then need to set up port forwarding on your router pointing to your internal IP address for all the ports you require. You also need to open these ports in the exception list on your firewall. You then place your pages in the document root of the server. Just having the dynamic dns should mean external machines will reach your public IP address, but you can not use it from your own network, as it will be looking at your router from the wrong side. I find dynamic dns very unreliable for this, better is a fixed public IP address, but you need to pay more to your ISP for this. Also many ISPs will not allow you to run a web server, they block port 80 incoming unless you subscribe to a business dsl account.

I have a web server running on my computer how can I HOST MP3'S from my computer *** well?
And reference then in my HTML so my friends can download them?? NOTE: I don't want to use a foreign hosting service
I have a web server running on my computer how can I HOST MP3'S from my computer *** well?
You just link them with:
%26lt;a href="your_file.mp3"%26gt;your_file.mp3%26lt;/a%26gt;
Its like any other link. You might instruct people to right click and have them save the link as a file. By default, clicking on it would start playing it.
I have a web server running on my computer how can I HOST MP3'S from my computer *** well?
One really good, visitor-friendly way to do it? Embed a Flash player that will let people play the MP3's without downloading.
I normally use the Drupal content management system for this, and it's set of Flash tools...
http://drupal.org
http://drupal.org/project/swftools
Both are free and if the server running on your machine is Apache/MySQL/PHP then you're good to go.

Best place to find info on starting your own e-commerce web site?
I'm thinking about taking my small retail store on line. I'm looking for places to start researching ecommerce back ends and other information for those starting from scratch. I'm talking about selling individual items, so it will need to be a scalable database system (starting with 20 items eventually going to 100 or more). It needs to be totally web based. I want to be able to check system status, make updates, etc from any Internet connected PC.
If you started your own ecommerce site from scratch, please chime in. If you found any web sites or books that provided helpful info, let me know. I'm hoping to avoid early pitfalls from those that have already been through this. Something with a check list of things to think about/address would be great. Also, if you have a reccomendation for an host service that supports e-commerce sites well, I'll take that too.
Best place to find info on starting your own e-commerce web site?
The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.
I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal %26amp; Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.
Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.
Research, research, research 鈥?this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:
* Selling Online: How to Become a Successful E-Commerce Merchant by Jim Carroll, Rick Broadhead
* The Complete E-Commerce Book: Design, Build, and Maintain a Successful Web-Based Business by Janice Reynolds

* Intelligent Selling: The Art %26amp; Science of Selling Online by Ken Burke

Email my password to my web admin?
I can't access my web host's webmail and admin tools, so I contacted their tech support. They want me to email them my login%26amp;password. They're a small company with good customer service, and I don't wanna be a douche, but isn't there something against giving away your password to anyone?
If you think I shouldn't, what's your sound reasoning?
Email my password to my web admin?
If they truly need your login and password then you should call them directly and provide it to them and then change it immediately after the issue is resolved.
If this company is asking you to email them your information then you should seriously considuer going with a different company. If they are this lax with the security then what other areas of security are they lax with? Email is sent in what is known as "clear text" unless you specifically use a program to encrypt it... which means that anyone could intercept the email, you could accidentally send it to the wrong address, etc... etc... plus, it would remain on their servers for anyone to find regardless of whether they themseves deleted it.
If a company I did business with showed this kind of security un-awareness and gross neglect for the security of my information... I would have a serious issue with it as a security professional.
Good Luck
Email my password to my web admin?
Yes I think you should never give login%26amp;password info to anyone. Let alone over E-mail. Any company can gain access to you're account they control. they might need to reset the password to do so. but thats as easy as sending you a temp password that you can reset once you've regained access to your account. Ask them to do so. If they're really that small and don't know how or are unwilling at least go to them in person so you know that someone has not intersepted your email and you know who you're talking too.
This is my profesional opinion, If they can't work with you maybe you need a better solution.
Reply:I would not do it. It doesn't sound right. I have worked with several different hosting companies and no one in tech support has ever asked me for my password. I have been asked for my account login before, but I would never give out my password. They should be able to analyze the problem through their system and see everything they need to see. If they think your problem may be your password, they should simply reset it.
Even if it is legitimate, don't send the information via email. Speak to them over the phone. If they don't offer phone support find another company! You don't want to waste time and energy trying to diagnose problems using email. There are too many reliable, low-cost hosting companies out there like www.oneworlddomains.com or www.godaddy.com that offer 24/7 phone support, to stay with someone who doesn't.
Good Luck!

AT&T YAHOO Doesn't offer there hosting customers a chat room. Text or Vioce with their Hosting Service. Why?
What made YAHOO popular certainly wasn't their search engine, I believe it was their "Chat Rooms" that was their major draw card. However when you sign up for a Hosting Account with AT%26amp;T / YAHOO then don't even offer you the courtesy of letting you add even a text chat, or voice chat to your web site. Don't you think that that should be an option in their add-ons?
AT%26amp;T YAHOO Doesn't offer there hosting customers a chat room. Text or Vioce with their Hosting Service. Why?
Why, most people that use there service is they want a Web site not a Chat Room. The other reason is there software is so easy to use, for making your site, virtually no help is needed.

Web designers....?
I'm trying to set up a website, nothing special, just testing out my newly learnt skills. I'm practicing by making a site offering my web design services, but i won't really be using it.
I'm studying from w3schools, and have only done X/HTML %26amp; CSS so far.
I'm trying to get ideas about what a web designer should put on the homepage/site
So far...
Homepage - I have three short paragraphs explaining what the site is about and what is on offer.
Links to other pages (not made the pages yet) (hosting/domain name - these pages will have links to hosting companies and Domain Name providers)
I have yahoo'd and google'd 'web designers' to get some ideas and with respect, some sites are just cr@p.
Can i be really cheeky and see some of your sites (if you are web designers by trade)?
Is there any thing in particular i need to add?
Is it ok to use tables instead of frames/nav bar as i hate them with a passion?
Thank you in advance.
Web designers....?
%26gt; I'm trying to get ideas about what a web designer
%26gt; should put on the homepage/site
I programmed B2B and B2C sites for about nine years as a captive employee and everything non-web for about twenty, both captive and consultant. I've decided to go freelance, but don't yet have a portfolio, since everything I've done is proprietary to my previous employers. My solution will be to provide samples based on templates that I'll offer for sale. For a number of different site models, I'll provide page examples to give prospective customers ideas. A template sale will be cheaper than a full, original design - it'll take me lots less time to do, once I have the templates available, and I can sell them cheaper.
%26gt; Links to other pages (not made the pages yet)
%26gt; (hosting/domain name...providers)
Be very sure that any such providers are GOOD. You don't want to wreck your rep. Also, if you're "advertising" for providers, see whether you can arrange referral partner status with the providers you elect to link. There could be bonus bucks in it for you.
%26gt; Can i be really cheeky and see some of your
%26gt; sites (if you are web designers by trade)?
Having only very recently decided to move into the freelance market, the only page sample I have currently, publicly published is at:
http://home.comcast.net/~richarduie/
The page is a very straight, simple links listing for web-geeks. The virtues are XHTML for structure, CSS for appearance, JavaScript for behavior. Separate these aspects to the fullest extent possible.
%26gt; Is it ok to use tables instead of frames/nav bar as i hate
%26gt; them with a passion?
I actually loved frames, but they're a really bad model for commercial sites. Frames give web spiders fits, and that's bad for your customers' SEO interests. Tables should not, I stress NOT, be used for layout. CSS is hugely more effective, flexible, robust, and standards-compliant. There are potential clients who have just enough wit to check under the hood of your portfolio or sample pages, checking the source. There are fellow developers and designers who might consider farming overflow work to you, who will definitely check your code. You'll look like an unqualified amateur to anyone who examines your source and sees tables applied for layout.
%26gt; Is there any thing in particular i need to add?
Practically, add conventions and standards. Pick an X/HTML document type and code to it (I prefer XHTML 1.0 currently). Validate your X/HTML and CSS, using the W3C validators; this removes the ambiguity of "quirky" browser treatments and evolves your understanding to a deep, correct one with respect to at least one model to which browser manufacturers are expected to become increasingly compliant. Follow CSS and web accessibility (WA) guidelines; find a validator for WA and use it (I recommend one under the "validators" link on the page I offered). Being meticulously rigorous with your code will provide a better, more robust and easily supportable product; those are major factors in retaining clients.
Read lists, articles, and geek sites, looking for new ideas and solutions.
Good luck.
Web designers....?
Avoid W3Schools - is has lots of errors, and where it isn't flat out wrong, it is usually a long way from best practise. http://www.htmldog.com/ is better.
As for the homepage - either something that explains what the site is about and guides the user towards what they are looking for, or the content that the user is very likely to be looking for.
Frames should be avoided: http://allmyfaqs.net/faq.pl?Problems_wit...
Tables should be avoided except for tabular data: http://www.hotdesign.com/seybold/
Reply:Well, web designers will only do what the person wants.
We write the code for them but it is upto the person and the amount of money they have.
Reply:I design sites for people quite a bit. I advise them to keep the homepage simple and limit the content to a "scroll of the wheel". Use short paragraphs and incorporate your Keywords into the page. Remember you can link to the interior pages from the home page so write in a fashion that gets the viewers attention.
Here are 2 of the sites I manage:
http://tracytysonmiller.com
http://ortegamedspa.com
Reply:To answer the table part of your question - tables should be avoided unless it is actually for tabular data (eg. a table containing price) - tables shouldn't be used for layout purposes (one of the many reasons for this is that tables throw off screen readers, making the site hard to use for the disabled)
If you want a better way of laying out pages, have a look at DIVs. There will probably be a lot about DIVs on w3schools.
Pages you could include in a website could be a portfolio page (showing potential customers some previous work you have done) and a contact page, to allow potential customers to send you a message, or phone number/email address.
I just went to google and had a look through some web designer pages, i have included a couple of good ones in the source list.
Reply:The approach to this will depend on your actual role as a designer. Are you looking to work for a design shop? Then the actual design will be your only task. If, on the other hand, you'll be dealing directly with the clients yourself, as a consultant, then one way to make yourself stand out from the rest is to give them not only what they want in terms of appearance, but explain what they NEED to get the RESULTS they want, which may not be the same thing.
The best advice on web design I've ever read is in a book that should be in all the classrooms, called "Don't Make Me Think"...
http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Make-Me-Think...
For some quality learning on both design theory and technique, check out...
http://webmonkey.com
Finally, my own sites, which aren't really wild examples on proper design, as my specialty is taking open-source projects like Drupal, Joomla, Mambo, and WordPress, and making them search-engine-friendly (because having a pretty site doesn't mean anyone will see it).
http://www.HesitantRhino.com
Reply:Everyone has their own ideas of what's good and bad for a web page design. Here is where you can look for 'do and don't do' on web designs (like I say there are more than one list out there): http://www.google.com/search?hl=en%26amp;q=10+...
I have 3 sites of my own that I have designed from the bottom up. You can see them for your viewing pleasure here:
http://www.mermeliz.com/index.htm
http://www.mermeliz.net/index.htm
http://www.allbgs.com/index.htm
What I try to accomplish with my web pages is to make the total page load no more then 100k. (But sometimes it's a little difficult). This is to help the people who are still on dial up not get discouraged when it takes forever for a page to load.
After I've created the page graphics, I use a program called WebGraphics Optimizer ( http://webopt.com/ ) to help compress the graphics to make them smaller so they load faster.
...As you can see by Andy's suggestions, he is an anti table guy, whereas I use tables in order to position everything exactly where I want it to be on a page. Everyones got their own ideas, you just have to find what you like best and what type of webpage surfer you want to attract and then go for it.

Finally, my own sites, which aren't really wild examples on proper design, as my specialty is taking open-source projects like Drupal, Joomla, Mambo, and WordPress, and making them search-engine-friendly (because having a pretty site doesn't mean anyone will see it).

What are the legal steps to having my own web site?
right now I am looking for a service to create and host my web site, If you have any suggestions on that as well I'll be glad to receive that also. But what I need to know is all about copyright information, the content on the website, practically, I just want to keep uncle sam happy, thanks.
What are the legal steps to having my own web site?
Copyright laws for web content, so far, have been pretty
much the same as any copyright situation. The originator
has the copyright but can license it, sell it, or give permission
to use the material for free.
Public domain stuff has not associated copyright and can
be freely used.
As is in all copyright situations, it is up to the copyright
owner to discover and enforce his/her copyright rights
using the courts if need be.
So, if you want to be legal and safe, if it isn't public domain,
get or purchase permission from the copyright owner to
use his/her stuff, or use public domain or stuff you develop
yourself. Bingo, no problems with Uncle...
What are the legal steps to having my own web site?
Everything on the internet is protected under copyright laws. It may not be Registered with the copyright office but it is still protected.
To be legal, if your domain name is available no one else has rights to it. Only put information on your site that you wrote or paid someone to write or you have expressed permission to use.
Make sure that your site has well written "terms of use and service" and "privacy policy" information.
Claim all income you make from your site and Uncle Sam will leave you alone.
Reply:None, go to godaddy.com and you can get your own website and domain name
Reply:Register your domain name, write and upload your own content to your website, you are done
Reply:You have to create or have somebody create all your content for you, or you can get it from a free article content provider for instance, but the articles usually have links in them that you cant delete or it will be copyright infringment. Be sure to report all you earning's and keep in mind if your sale goes out of state you dont have to pay state taxes. Also I would buy your domain from http://www.ICANN-Domains.com They offer free hosting and a free 5 page website with a domain purchase. Plus there .com's are only $6.95 whereas right now godaddy's are $9.99 for .com's
Reply:Copyright law is already in place for what you put on the web.
The trouble lies in enforcing it.
One thing you might do is what writers do with their for-print work... when you put a major new writing on your website, print it out and mail a certified, registered copy to yourself. That way, if it's ever an issue, you have physical, sealed proof that you had it first.
Another thing... just for the sake of completeness, put a copyright notice in the footer of all your web pages (if you're using a content management system, you can set that up once and it will automatically display on all pages).

Which webpages format is better? PHP or HTML?
I want to know which one better? I have some PHP scripts and wonder if I can copy and paste them into HTML? Can you give at least the best solution for a posting a webpages that includes database of clients's e-mail address and home address including phone number? I got some money and ready to order a web page host service.
Which webpages format is better? PHP or HTML?
All web pages are in HTML format - that's the language of the web. PHP is a way of adding dynamic content to HTML, so PHP pages are better in that they can do more.
You can paste PHP scripts into a web page. The scripts have to be marked off by %26lt;?php at the start and ?%26gt; at the end. On most systems you also have to name your file with a .php extension so the server will know to look for the code.
Which webpages format is better? PHP or HTML?
HTML is a lot simpler and easier to use, not to mention PHP can have a lot of loopholes that require patches on the code. And yes the two can be intertwined. Just like how you have a HTML site with a forum, which is php.
Reply:You use PHP in conjuntion with HTML. You use HTML to format and display your content, PHP for any coding (data retrieval, in your case). You paste the PHP code into your HTML pages like:
%26lt;?php
// PHP Code here
?%26gt;
%26lt;!-- rest of your html --%26gt;
If you're going to be displaying clients' personal data, make sure you have a login page so the data can't be displayed to anyone else.
Reply:HTML is the design. PhP is for data, not design. If you are going to use PhP, the page needs to have a .php extension, not .htm.
I use a lot of PhP on my website. I use it to get info from a database and then display it. Kinda like this...
//Get info from database
$sql=("SELECT * FROM tablename");
$query=mysql_query($sql);
while($row=mysql_fetch_array)
{
//Display info
%26lt;p%26gt;$row[Name]%26lt;/p%26gt;
}
This will display all the 'Names' from the database.
If you will be displaying a lot of data that changes, names added, removed, edited, etc, then it would be better to use PhP because you would not have to wade through the page to find the name.
If you need more help, contact me at http://www.yuchniuk.com
Reply:HTML and PHP are two different languages. They have different uses. HTML is a client side language which will render a static page on the client computer. PHP is a server side scripting language which can deliver dynamic web content to a client computer. PHP is a language which can communicate with the server to provide connections to the database, a mail server and host of other services to deliver content to the web page.
One is neither better or worse than the other... they server different functions.
Most web sites or hosting services will be able to render html pages. If you want to use PHP scripts, you would need to make sure that the hosting service supports PHP. PHP is one of the languages of choice to connect with a database [such as mysql] to store things such as email addresses or phone numbers.
You can not normally just cut and paste a PHP script into an HTML document. You need to have a .php page for the page to render the PHP script on the webpage.

Does google has webhosting service for e-commerce website?
I need a web host to host my ecommerce website done in php.
Does google has this service of web-hosting?
Does google has webhosting service for e-commerce website?
I don't believe they do. I just purchased my service with comes with free domain registration for like 5 bucks a month. PHP is compatible and they even have lots of free pre made web store templates. Once more thing, as I said before its like 5 bucks a month but it has to be paid annually.
Here's the site, I spent weeks finding a good deal and this is the best one that I have found.

No Google doesn't offer web hosting for e-commerce.
Yahoo does, see the resource below.

How much does E-commerce webdesigning usually cost?
I'm wondering what's the price range for an e-commerce web-design service and web hosting. Any recommendation or advices to look out for when choosing a designer?
How much does E-commerce webdesigning usually cost?
If you go with 1and1 Internet, you can get there eShop service anywhere from $9.99 to $49.99 a month. As far as graphics and an identity is concerned. Most mainstream projects cost anywhere from $100-$1000 for design. You can always buy a pre-made template for a lot cheaper (under $300)
How much does E-commerce webdesigning usually cost?
The range of possible prices is vast. You can probably get started on a service that specializes in bare-bones small business ecommerce (like Yahoo! Stores or Microsoft Small Business) for under $1,000, including the first year of hosting.
On the other hand, if you represent a major corporation launching a new, full-featured, unique ecommerce site, your budget would probably be in the $20 million - $30 million neighborhood. And you would expect to pay about a million a year in hosting fees, which would get you mirrored, clustered, load-balanced sites in several secure data centers around the world.
Or you can spend just about anything in between those extremes. It all depends on what you're willing to pay for uniqueness, security, robustness, special features, and so forth.
Look for someone with experience. Above all, look for someone who asks you lots and lots of questions about what you're looking for before they quote any prices. Lots of questions. At least a two-hour interview.
The number one reason that design and programming projects fail is lack of detailed communication.
Good luck!

HELP ME HELP ME!!! I have my web site hosted with Homestead. It was easy to register and create my web site?
with Homestead, however being HTML based, there services very limited for what I want my site to do.
Recently, I've justed created a new domain name and paying for monthly hosting with Daily Razor for a PHP based site. I am very unfamiliar with Daily Razor and its PHP features. Will it be as easy for me to create a web site with them as it was with Homestead, or will I need to pay extra for a site builder and other features before building my site? Is it easy to learn PHP? What is Dreamweaver and how can this help me with what I need to do with PHP?
Your imput will be greatly appreciated.

How do I get value from Network Solutions?
Recently I got a couple of domains from Network Solutions. A colleague in IT just raved about how they're the best, they have the most services, they're the Hertz/VISA/Nike/AmazoneBay of web services - how could I go wrong?
Well, I'm thinking I did go wrong. Though my friend touted the "free" website setup I could get at NS, I ended up paying $60 annual for lowest-tier web hosting. That's OK, but then I found out I had to use THEIR web design tool - and after a 30-day trial, THAT will also cost me. Further, their tool is worse than inflexible - it fails to function because it overrides or erases my setup.
What I'm thinking now is to transfer my domains (since I own them now) to another web service (GoDaddy or some other). I want to contact my credit card company and cancel the web hosting/design tool part of my purchase with NS.
Has anyone dealt with managing their own domains and websites? Any *good* advice (as opposed to my colleague's) as to what my options are now?
How do I get value from Network Solutions?
You can leave the domain names registered with NS if you want. I have found them to be reliable for domain registration. You can then host your domain at any location that you want.
Domain name registration and web site hosting are separate functions and don't have to be at the same company. I have worked with numerous companies that host their own site but register the domain name else where. It is a fairly easy process. All you will need to do is once you have the web hosting site ensure they enter the proper DNS records for your site. That will then propagate across the Internet. You can tell NS where the site is once you set it up and they can also update their DNS and WHOIS database.

web 2.0 is collection of concepts, in regards to design and coding of a website. So it can't really be offered.
If you want websites that adhere to the web 2.0 concept, I'd suggest checking out http://per.fectio.net : it's a web sie layout design gallery.

Can a web service really get you 10.000 hits on your site. When I checked they use the same host os and ip?
Is it possible that they can direct those hits thru their server first. I thought the hits would come from the individuals interested on seeing the site and the service says no. I also heard the term click thru, as in they are doing the hits. The company appeared to be legit but now I don't know. I hate getting ripped off..........Thanks
Can a web service really get you 10.000 hits on your site. When I checked they use the same host os and ip?
You were not necessarily ripped off.
Maybe they used a Pay to surf program. A program like that redirect the traffic through the same ip. That explains why you've seen the same ip and OS in your logs.
But even if you get 10.000 visitors, by the way they might be real, this kind of traffic is useless as the users are being paid just to open sites, not for evaluating them.

No, this is very likely to be a rip off, or if not it will be a macro computer

Which Hosts should I consider for a new Web 2.0 Application that deals with 'lots' of Big Video files??
I am a designer in the UK and I am creating 'yet another' video sharing site for the Web 2.0 bubble (Don't panic, it's a good one).
I need to find out what sort of hosting I should use (maybe even get a comparison between shared, dedicated and virtual etc). And to accompany this which hosting companies I should be considering?
I could have 1,000 subscribers, 100,000 (or you never know 1,000,000) subscribers so I need a scaleable solution that doesnt cost me 3 arms and 4.236 legs.
I'll be hosting personal content and profiles for my users so it is VERY important that my host is Secure , reliable and I have Guaranteed Bandwidth for my users.
I plan to offer 50+Gb Bandwidth Transfer and 10+Gb Storage for each user. I do understand that Bandwidth costs money and therefore a lot of hosting plans Oversell for the majority of users who are not going to maximize the bandwidth offered to them.
I need your advice/answers to help me find a trusted partner for hosting my service. Thank You

Hi,
I have a friend that just found a web hosting company that supplies unmetered bandwidth (without restrictions). He's been saying a lot of nice things about midPhase since he transferred from his last host. You can find them at http://www.midphaseoffers.com/ for more information.
If I remember right, I think he said he had a shared hosting plan with them with unmetered bandwidth, support for unlimited domains, a lot of disk space (for your videos) and a nice 30-day guarantee.
The site above should also provide you with a comparison for midPhase shared, VPS, and dedicated hosting plans. I hope this helps.
Good luck,
PhantomT

If I remember right, I think he said he had a shared hosting plan with them with unmetered bandwidth, support for unlimited domains, a lot of disk space (for your videos) and a nice 30-day guarantee.
The site above should also provide you with a comparison for midPhase shared, VPS, and dedicated hosting plans. I hope this helps.
Good luck,
PhantomT
Which web host is the best for proffesional purposes?
Many webhosts provide services for min 4to5$.(do they really provide services for that less, or it is just for web sites with less content)
I want to know which webhost will be the best since I have many webpages and will be requiring a lot of web space. Will I need to opt for a server plan or the ordinary. Please give as much info. as you can. I am confused.... Thanks!
Which web host is the best for proffesional purposes?
http://www.1and1.com
They are AWESOME! I used them for my podcast until i found an alternate route. They are really professional, and offer TONS of services. I reccomend this host to everyone looking for a professional service that offers upgrades and everything. Space is good too, and same with bandwidth. Check out the options, and if you wanna include PHP, go with the linux hosting options, as MS doesn't quite have that down yet, and don't work.
Which web host is the best for proffesional purposes?
Your own! You probably have webspace you aint even using in your ISP account! You will also find space cheaper there if you need more.
Reply:I am in the same boat...
I need a webspace badly.
What I tried initiallly is...
setup my own webserver (in my case its IIS)
open the ports in my router
and use a routing dns provided by www.no-ip.com
I am still building it.
Once tested widely on www, I wiill think about host services.
I use to hear
bigdaddy
network solution
etc.,
but right now, I will hear from someone who already put them there

What should I know in starting up my own web design business?
I have some experience supporting a large website, but not with the entire design process yet. But I really enjoy doing this type of work and would love to make money doing it. I have most of the software I think I would need (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc), as well as space with a hosting service. I am still working on my personal website and I don't have much to include for a personal portfolio yet. What would be the best steps to take to really venture out on my own by starting my own web design business and find potential customers? With all of the 'do it yourself' templates out now, is there a big demand for this type of work still?
What should I know in starting up my own web design business?
First, be sure you're good at it. I know that sounds really critical, but there are a lot of people out there that enjoy designing websites and 'think' that they're good, but they aren't. Make sure you add value to the industry.
Next, try getting business owners you know to hand over their website design requirements. Build one or two for little cost. You'll build references and a portfolio.
Then try to find places to gather new clients. Do you fit into a niche where no one else offers a good service? Do you provide back-end programming or just front-end design? Market to specific clients and serve that sector well! You can also find websites like elance.com and others that allow you to bid on open project requests.
Do good work, always treat your clients right and keep strong referral networks going. Never stop networking. Best of luck!

* How to Start a Home-Based Web Design Business, 2nd by Jim Smith
* The Real Business of Web Design Paperback by John Waters
* Professional Web Design: Techniques and Templates by Clint Eccher, Eric Hunley, Erik Simmons
There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.
Hope that helps! I wish you much success %26amp; happiness in all your ventures!

How do I add music to my web page?
I know the html code, but what I can't figure out is how to upload the audio file to my webserver. It is not a fancy webpage maker that comes with my hosting service, but it allows me to upload images and things, but I'm not sure how to upload an mp3 or wav file. Do I need a more advanced web page program to accomplish this?
How do I add music to my web page?
It depends on what your host is. If your using maxpages then click Upload and browse the music file on your computer, then click the Page Features button and select the file name.

How do you call a web service from Installshield?
I have an application that is installed through a setup created by Installshield version 11. The application is used internally by my firm on our LAN. Once the application is installed on the host computer I need to pass information back to my group to indicate who installed the application and the date and time they installed it. We need to track this information for marketing purposes.
I am considering having the setup program call a web service that will allow this information to be passed. However there doesn't seem to be any built in capabilities in Installshield to directly handle a web service call. Has anyone ever done this before?
I've also considered sending an e-mail with the information I need. Any other thoughts on how the setup program can send information like this over a LAN/Internet connection would be appreciated.

How can i stream live video to my website without a web cam? I WANT THE BRODCAST TO BE LIVE ON MY WEB SITE!?
i dont want to use a web cam, i want the live video to be on my domain name from like godaddy.com or somthing like that. what kind of web site should i make, i just want to pay for a domain, not a hosting service thats like $10 a month, just a domain. what do i need?
How can i stream live video to my website without a web cam? I WANT THE BRODCAST TO BE LIVE ON MY WEB SITE!?
you need a webcam
How can i stream live video to my website without a web cam? I WANT THE BRODCAST TO BE LIVE ON MY WEB SITE!?
How can you stream video of yourself if you have no webcam.. If you are looking for jusst streaming audio use Sam Broadcaster.
Reply:First of all, if you don't have a webcam what video are you going to stream?
Secondly, if you don't host the domain on a server, there will be no site for people to visit. The domain name is just an address to the server your site is on.
You need to have some kind of video to stream, that source can be from a webcam or video camera. You also need to have someone hosting your site.
Reply:first of all you should not say what you don't want as you don;t know how these things work yet.
If you want video to be live on a web site, first you need a way to get video from a camera to the web server in a streaming matter.
You need some kind of camera for that. Call it a webcam or not, you need some kind of video camera.
Then you need a web server capable of serving streams. don't worry, you won't get that for $10 a month, because you will need a higher tier of service then that. At the very least, yo are going to need a VPS or more likely a dedicated server.
Then you are going to need enough bandwidth each month to cover the video uploads and downloads (streams) alike. How much depends on how popular your site is, and if everyone watches all at once or not.
Then you need to know how to administer the computer, both for functionality, and for security matters.
then you have to make an actual web site, of which registering a domain at godaddy.com and causing it to be located on your server is pretty easy.
Then all you have to do is get the word out for people to visit your web site :)
You might be able to practice this, or at least try stuff out, at home with a version of the linux operating system called Dynebolic. Look up their web site, and you will find a community and lots of free software you can probably use on the PC you already have to get a handle on things.
If you are dead set against paying for a real hosting service with real bandwidth, you can do what I mentioned using dynebolic hooked up to your home dsl or cable network, but the upload speeds are probably going to be insufficient to do more then one or two simultaneous streams of any quality. But you can at least practice with that - what you learn will be directly transferable to a real web host.

Reply:i can recommend one fee web host company. they offer unlimited yoursubdomain.theirdomain.com for free. if you have your own paid domain name they can host it for free. no forces ads or banner whatsoever. 60MB space, 1 ftp account. 500kbs limit for uploading files. but as free services they don't allow PHP because allowing php could cost them a lot for security purpose. their forum is very helpful from my experience. check my profile for my site.i used them to host my sites.

I'm receiving other user's emails?
I've got a Web Hosting Starter service with Yahoo. I created two emails for two different users, but I'm receiving the other user's emails. I tried to change my email details it in the Control panel but "it finds an error" and doesn't change anything. I believe it's a software bug but I don't know how to contact Yahoo staff (their "contact us" section doesn't seem to be working). Any ideas?

Google has not updated my web site cache for 3 months?
Is it possible that your web hosting company do something to your web pages and make Google not to crawl your web site? The hosting company do this because they want you to sign up for thier SEO service?
Google has not updated my web site cache for 3 months?
Nope. You have to update your website frequently. Try to add the following in your meta tag:

Online html editors or website builders not tied to hosting ?
are there any online html editors (or website builders or anything) that are not tied to hosting?
example: is there ANY online way to edit a page on my site hosted on godaddy (except use of godaddy's own lame system) ????
if the website builders and templates and all that stuff is ONLY a FEATURE of a hosting service, then why all the big promotion of the 'website builders' and 'online html editors' by independent parties?
with all the yelling about "online" this and that and "web 2.0", is the situation truly that in order to edit my godaddy hosted sites i must either use their lame/lousy online tools or be tied to my own computer hard drive? There is NO OTHER online/web-based solution for editing html pages???? TIA for any clarification
Online html editors or website builders not tied to hosting ?
I have never seen any tools hoasted online, and if they are I doubt they are free. Dreamweaver is not that expensive and is a very powerfull, and easy to use. I would strongly recommend it if you are looking to build your website.

Firsly, on yoiur site, you have a typo in your email address. Secondly, you are required to put full contact details on your site, as if it were a piece of letterhead - a postal address, a phone number and who you are (your name if you are a sole trader, for example).
Anyway, ebay offer a new classifieds service which is free. I am a copywriter and had work from there in the first month I advertised. Good luck!
Reply:Like one other contributor to your question, I feel you should spend some time proofreading your writings before submitting them anywhere. However, since you are asking for recommendations, I have found "GoDaddy" to be reasonably priced as well as stable for web-hosting. My one complaint would be the small size (10Mb) for the available email accounts. Their "free" account is only 25Mb. However, you can Yahoo! and have a larger free email account. Seriously, though, consider proofreading your submissions before clicking on the "Send" button.

Who is a great web host and web builder for an online store (not a personal site)?
I have an eBay store and I want to develop a website off of eBay to sell my products. I need the whole nine yards (shopping cart, subdomains, product catalog, web statistics).
I've been doing tons of research and had bought a packet with StartLogic, but their customer service SUCKS!
Who do you recommend as a great (not just good) web host %26amp; web builder?
Who is a great web host and web builder for an online store (not a personal site)?
If you intend to create a few websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website), go for multiple web hosting where you could handle your websites in one account.
I suggest following webhosting , they are quite good.
Hostmonster http://www.anurl.com/?PQMRY
They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 200000 MB (200 GB ).
Hostmonster http://www.anurl.com/?PQMRY
Domains
Following site is quite good to register domains as price is reasonable with free privacy. Some charge about $5/ year just for free privacy.

Free web host?
Ok, so the free web host I've had for the past few years decided stop offering the service. A nice surprise yesterday. So now I need to find a new decent host, and there are lots out there, but many rather suck. So I thought I'd get some other people's opinions.
What I need is a site that is mostly:
*Relatively reliable with little down time
*Loads pretty fast
*No ads or very light on them with nothing annoying
*Around 100 MB of space (or more)
Does anyone have any good recommendations? Thanks in advance! : )
